“LET ME SHOW YOU GOD”
Yesterday I ventured out to Evanston, IL and saw a play called Elder Gods which is an adaptation of H. P. Lovecraft’s At The Mountains of Madness. It was one of the greatest theatre going experiences of my life. The acting was superb as well as the story telling and overall set up of the production. It was done in the promenade style. This meant that the play was spread out through a loft with different locations throughout allowing the audience to physically follow the actors through the story. My favourite thing about this style is that you can be very close to the action and everyone is in a different spot which allows each individual their own perspective what is happening.
The cast was brilliant with each actor devoted to fully becoming their character (This being especially present in the pre-show). I also feel in love with the set. During the pre-show you are allowed to wander about the space. I came across beautiful imagery of William Dyer’s workplace and found a hidden Lovecraftian gem that send me into fangirl mode.
I won’t give away anything else, but if this sounds right up your alley, if you enjoy, Lovecraft, horror, experimental theatre, and an open bar you should most definately come to see show. I didn’t regret it and I don’t you will either.
